SHU Nursing Administration & Undergrad Nursing Named Tops in CT Per U.S. News & World Report

FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Sacred Heart University’s online master’s in nursing administration and bachelor’s program for nursing each ranked first in Connecticut, according to the latest ratings from U.S. News & World Report. The SHU online graduate nursing program ranked second in the state, climbing three spots nationally.

“Our online courses pair academic rigor with scheduling flexibility, a winning combination for many working professionals,” said Karen Daley, dean of the Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N., & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing (DHCON). “We also offer our students a third key element: a dedicated, full-time faculty committed to providing the personalized, one-on-one attention that is so crucial to student success in this demanding field.”

The U.S. News & World Report rankings, which appear in the publisher’s 2022 editions of Best Online Bachelor’s Programs and Best Online Master’s in Nursing Programs, rank online programs from hundreds of universities and colleges nationwide. Categories used to rank programs include engagement, services and technologies, faculty credentials and training, expert opinion and student excellence.

Sacred Heart’s online bachelor’s program enables a registered nurse (R.N.) to earn a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing (B.S.N.). Registered nurses who have a diploma or associate degree in nursing develop professional skills in health assessment, information technology, evidence-based practice and more. The curriculum also covers concepts of health care and wellness across cultures, clinical leadership development and methods of measuring care outcomes.

“The R.N.-to-B.S.N program was designed carefully to build on SHU’s mission and the proven core concepts of the undergraduate programs,” Daley said. “Our arts and sciences curriculum helps our students understand their own humanity, while learning to care for and heal others as part of their obligation to promote the common good.”

Motivated students can work toward an online master’s degree in nursing. This rigorous course of study develops advanced clinical, managerial and educational skills. The program offers four specializations: clinical nurse leader, nursing management and executive leadership, nursing education and family nurse practitioner.

Ranked for the first time in the 2022 listings, SHU’s online M.S.N. in nursing management & executive leadership program develops sought-after skills for effective nurse leaders who can improve processes and affect patient outcomes. Graduates can apply integrative expertise in strategic planning, quality improvement, workforce development, research and ethics and human resources management.

Sacred Heart also offers an online doctor of nursing practice program that builds on master-level education to prepare students for leadership roles within the health-care delivery system.
